32nd Annual Children and Youth Day

Mahalo to Our Deputies, Partners, and Supporters

The Department of Law Enforcement proudly participated in the 32nd Annual Children and Youth Day on Sunday, October 5, 2025, held throughout the Capitol Complex. The department’s booth experienced a steady stream of visitors throughout the entire event, with keiki, parents, and grandparents engaging with displays, equipment, and safety information. This year marked one of the department’s most successful showings, with families lining up to learn more about the work deputies do every day.

Special recognition goes to the State’s newly appointed Fire Marshal, Dori Booth, who supported the department’s outreach and highlighted Fire Prevention Week. She provided valuable information on lithium-ion battery safety and distributed stickers and magnets for the keiki. The Honolulu Fire Department also stopped by to assist, helping to broaden the event’s reach and impact.

Mahalo is extended to the deputies and chaplains whose dedication and teamwork made this event possible:

  • Sgt. Nakamoto and family
  • Deputy Brown and family
  • Chaplain Vergara
  • Chaplain Flores and family
  • Chaplain Yonemura
  • Deputy Selga
  • Deputy Oshiro
  • Lt. Jaentsch

Their support included booth operations, bringing the patrol car and quad, and coordinating with Central Patrol for drone support—all of which helped create an engaging and educational experience for the community.

This initiative is led by Lieutenant Michael Oakland, Commander of Program Support (Community Relations, Peer Support, Chaplain Corps, Sheriff Reserves, Records, and Central Receiving Desk). The department extends its appreciation to Lt. Oakland for his leadership, coordination, and commitment to strengthening community partnerships. His efforts ensure that keiki and families receive positive, meaningful opportunities to learn about public safety.

All personnel are encouraged to support future community events, which play a vital role in educating the public about the department’s mission and building advocates who help ensure the resources and support needed to continue serving Hawai‘i effectively.
